DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Unsigned Iowa 971 begins at a junction with Iowa 2 approximately 9 miles west of Shenandoah and travels northerly and easterly to the Fremont‑Page County line (junction US 59) at Shenandoah.

Due to an agreement between Fremont County and the Iowa State Highway Commission approved March 7, 1968, that portion of Unsigned Iowa 971 from a point approximately 1,500 feet west of the E ¼ Corner of Section 28‑T69N‑R41W northerly and easterly to the Fremont‑Page County line at a point approximately 500 feet north of the E ¼ Corner Section 24‑T69N‑R40W should be deleted from the primary road system and reverted to the Fremont County secondary road system effective December 1, 1979.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the description of Unsigned Iowa 971 in Fremont County, as referred to in the attached detailed description, be deleted from the primary road system.

Remove Unsigned Iowa 971 in Fremont County as follows:

Beginning at a point approximately 1,500 feet west of the E ¼ Corner of Section 28‑T69N‑R41W; thence curving in a northeasterly direction to a point approximately 1,500 feet north of the E ¼ Corner of Section 28-T69N-R41W; thence north following substantially the section line of Sections 27 and 22‑T69N‑R41W to a point approximately 600 feet south of the NW Corner of Section 22‑T69N‑R41W; thence curving in a northeasterly direction to a point approximately 600 feet east of the NW Corner of Section 22-T69N-R41W; thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 22, 23 and 24‑T69N‑R41W and Sections 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24-T69N-R40W to a point near the N ¼ Corner of Section 24‑T69N‑R40W; thence in a southeasterly direction through said Section 24 to the Fremont‑Page County line at a point approximately 500 feet north of the E ¼ Corner of Section 24‑T69N‑R40W.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records Unsigned Iowa 971 in Fremont County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary System.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the old description of Unsigned Iowa 971 in Fremont County be deleted and the new description, as referred in the attached detailed description, be included in the Primary Road System effective upon the adoption of this resolution.

Locate Unsigned Iowa 971 in Fremont County as follows:

Beginning at a point approximately 1500 feet west of the E ¼ Corner of Section 28‑T69N‑R41W; thence curving in a northeasterly direction to a point approximately 1500 feet north of the E ¼ Corner of Section 28‑T69N‑R41W; thence north following substantially the section line of Sections 27 and 22-T69N-R41W to a point approximately 600 feet south of the NW Corner of Section 22-T69N‑R41W; thence curving in a northeasterly direction to a point approximately 600 feet east of the NW Corner of Section 22‑T69N‑R41W; thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 22, 23 and 24‑T69N‑R41W and Sections 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24‑T69N‑R40W to a point near the N ¼ Corner of Section 24‑T69N‑R40W; thence in a southeasterly direction through said Section 24 to the Fremont‑Page County line at a point approximately 500 feet north of the E ¼ Corner of Section 24‑T69N‑R40W.

Beginning at a point approximately 1400 feet west of the E ¼ Corner of Section 28‑T69N‑R41W; thence curving in a northeasterly direction to a point approximately 1400 feet north of the E ¼ Corner of Section 28‑T69N‑R41W; thence north following substantially the section line to a point approximately 600 feet south of the NW Corner of Section 22‑T69N‑R41W; thence curving in a northeasterly direction to a point approximately 600 feet east of the NW Corner of Section 22‑T69N‑R41W; thence east following substantially the section line to a point near the N ¼ Corner of Section 24‑T69N‑R40W; thence in a southeasterly direction to the Fremont‑Page County line at a point approximately 500 feet north of the E ¼ Corner of Section 24‑T69N‑R40W; thence south along the Fremont‑Page County line (W. NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa State Highway Commission approve the location of Unsigned Iowa 971 in Fremont County, Iowa.
